As Talking Heads would have it, Our Haus is actually located in the middle of my street. I find this both ridiculously comical and coincidental, but it makes my relationship with their food seem that much more involved.

By far one of the most popular cafés in Hawthorne, Our Haus has got the goods for breakfast and lunch. Most days it is very busy and often you will have to wait for a seat if you go during prime breakfast hours. But, I can guarantee it is well worth the wait.

As I visit this café at least four times a week, I’ve tried just about every breakfast option available on the menu. The Eggs Hawthorne goes down a treat if you're a starvin' Marvin after a big night out, or alternatively, if you’re looking for something quick to fill your tum’, their Banana Bread is amazing and probably the best I’ve tasted to date. If you’re one of those people that like to live breakfast large, The Big Breakfast is your new best friend. Although it’s the most expensive menu option, the serving size is huge. In fact, it should probably be re-named the Enormous Appetite Breakfast. I've taken on TBB a few times with a friend and despite my determined attempts, have still not finished the entire meal.

The coffee is always great and the lunch menu is very enticing. The meal servings are always quite generous and leave you with that 'so full but can't stop eating' feeling.

On top of all the great things Our Haus has to offer, its stand out from other cafes is that it's pet friendly. You don't find many of these around Brisbane! The staff are always welcoming if you bring your furry friend along for a feed. They even offer Puppy-Chinos on the menu. Yep, if you (like me) love your dog a little too much, you can bring him/her along for a coffee break.

I'm not sure if the owners of Our Haus are actually of German decent, but some day soon I will take a line from Kennedy's book and march in proclaiming “Ich bin ein Berliner”! On second thoughts, I don't advice anyone does that as they don't actually sell jelly donuts... but they do have an amazing variety of bakery treats. Their marvelous muffins and chocolate croissants will have you never feeling the need to cook again. Why eat at home when you can eat at Our Haus?
