Open since May 2012, The Manhattan Club is bringing a taste of New York to Fortitude Valley.
The slickly renovated space incorporates a busy stage, a great bar, stage-front seating and lounge areas, and a mezzanine level restaurant. Heavy red curtains draped across the windows conceal the interior from passers by, while over the bar, a silhouette of the New York skyline pays homage to the venue’s roots. The atmospheric lighting, high ceiling and black and red furnishings contrast sharply with the chaos of the streets outside.
The entertainment reflects the New York live music tradition, with bands playing most nights of the week. Jazz, funk, improvisation, Australian pub rock: you name it, you’ll find it at The Manhattan and some of Brisbane's most talented musicians can often be found onstage.
The atmosphere is fantastic and the staff are excellent, but it’s with food and drink that The Manhattan really shines. The innovative cocktail menu is a constantly evolving creature, where the Cosmopolitan and Long Island Iced Tea mingle with the Apple Pie Martini and the Storm in a Teacup. Most recently, the sugar-overloading Bubblegum Martini has caused a stir amongst barflies.
The food menu, which regularly undergoes seasonal changes, is equally impressive. A high quality yet affordable range of nibblies, main meals and desserts is available over the bar or in the mezzanine restaurant. Deceptively simple, the crusty bread with cultured butter and onion jam knocks it out of the park, while the brownie with peanut butter icecream and raspberry sauce is a decadent way to top off a wonderful meal.
Groups can be seated comfortably in one of the upstairs booths and the mezzanine is the perfect place to enjoy dinner and the night’s live entertainment without jostling for space at the bar. Keep an eye on The Manhattan Club’s Facebook page for themed nights, promotional packages and weekly events and specials.
