Brisbanes bar scene has undergone a revival of sorts in the past few years, with bar owners recognising the increasing demand for small, more intimate venues over huge nightclubs. Alfred and Constance, which opened in November in Fortitude Valley, is a collection of small venues housed in two heritage Queenslanders adding up to one big new hotspot.

Do you feel like a sweet treat or a soft serve sundae? Sit yourself down in Alfreds Caf. If its a late night indulgence youre after, youre also in luck the late night dessert caf and alcoholic juice bar is at your service until midnight. For a dinner date, book yourself a table in the Vanguard Beer Garden restaurant and bar and try a roast pork roll or an eye fillet steak. After dinner you might feel like dancing up a storm upstairs in the White Lightning Tiki Bar with a Pina Colada, or maybe youll just want to kick back in a comfy couch in the Tunes Bar.

As you can see, choice is the key word at Alfred and Constance. The venue has been artfully designed and well thought out, right to the last intricate detail. Personal touches are present in every room, ensuring that you will feel at home no matter where you pull up a chair. One minute youre in an eccentric aunts 70s-style living room, next thing you know youre sinking into a leather couch in some rockstars basement.

The drinks menu is large and fun, and youll find something that appeals to you whether you want to choose from the many beers on tap or the long list of tropical cocktails the Kiwi Passion Smash and Disco Pisco are both must-haves.

The restaurant is not made for vegetarians, but meatlovers will have plenty to smile about. The wood and charcoal ovens work overtime, churning out enough deliciously roasted meat to satisfy the hungriest of carnivores. Dont be fooled by the small plates section of the menu the A&C hamburger is a hefty meal in its own right, and the chorizo scotched egg is more filling than you would think. The standard of food is high under the direction of Patron Chef Jocelyn Hancock (of Jocelyns Provisions) and Head Chef Dave Lindsey.

Alfred and Constance is a risky venture that looks to have paid off. Word has spread far and wide, so be prepared for big crowds and arrive early if you want to nab a good seat.
