Since the 2011 floods we have seen many great new restaurants open up down on Sidon Street at South Bank. Cove Bar and Dining is one of these and is absolutely worth going to. With the only thing blocking your river view being canoodlers on the perfectly manicured lawn in front of the restaurant, Cove has a wonderful outlook over the river and towards the CBD. I was at Cove for a Rosé Revolution event that they were hosting. José the Rosé was my favourite, for its name but also its taste. It is a wonderfully refreshing and fruity wine, and I think I have now been converted by the Rosé Revolution to drink more of the yummy pink (or orange) wine. We were given complimentary oysters all the way from Coffin Bay down in South Australia. They were big, juicy and incredible. With our attention piqued by the delicious oysters and José, we decided to sit down for a meal. Between four of us we shared a few of the smaller plates – the hard herb sour dough with amazing Pepe Saya cultured butter; chicken crackling (it is as good as it sounds); anise duck spring rolls – arguably the best spring roll that any of us had ever tasted; mussels wrapped in ham and crumbed – ridiculously good; and the rare smoked beef salad with artichokes, goats cheese and pepitas. It was one of those shared occasions where you did not hold back on taking the last morsel on the plate. Every one was fighting to finish each amazing offering. The plates were all unique and absolutely delicious. I cannot wait to go back for more. Cove is the perfect place for an afternoon drink and light meal with friends watching the sun go down and the people of Brisbane stroll by.
